Our History
Punch Records was established in 1997 as a record store selling Black music. It quickly developed into Birmingham’s leading independent supplier of vinyl and great ideas.
As part of an ever expanding programme of activities including marketing for record labels, sourcing new regional talent, managing artists, promoting events, supporting national initiatives, pressing and distributing new products and working within the commercial sector, in 2002 another arm to the company was set up ‘Punch’.
This new organisation, which focused on music education, helped to support artists in schools and develop touring networks for musicians.
Today, the record store has closed permanently and Punch has developed into a major, ideas-led cultural resource for the city of Birmingham and the UK through its advocacy, advice service, productions, festivals and innovative approach to artist development.
