Urban Orchestra
The Urban Orchestra aims to break down barriers and stereotypes about what an orchestra is. We work with a wide range of musicians from samba bands and choirs through to steel bands and strings. We team them up for a range of musicians from urban music backgrounds, for example beatboxers, rappers and producers.
Together the musicians take a piece of classical music and produce a mash up of the original version, using beats and samples, adding lyrics and raps – all making a fresh, new sound.
The work is then recorded live so each participant gets a CD of the finished result.
